Course Overview

Almost every cyber attack travels across a network. This course gives you the networking knowledge that SOC analysts and network defenders use every day, from IP addressing and VLANs to firewalls, attack detection and Wireshark, with hands-on tasks you do on your own computer.

By the end, you will be able to:

  1. Explain the OSI and TCP/IP models, and the ports and protocols attackers target.
  2. Work with IP addresses, subnets and NAT.
  3. Use VLANs and segmentation to contain attacks.
  4. Explain how firewalls, IDS/IPS and VPNs protect a network.
  5. Spot the signs of sniffing, man-in-the-middle, scanning and DoS attacks.
  6. Analyze traffic in Wireshark, configure firewall rules and design a secure network.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does a self-paced course work?▼
All lessons unlock when you enroll. Work through them at your own speed.
Do I need a tech background?▼
No. The course starts from the basics. Comfort using a computer is enough.
What software do I need?▼
Wireshark, which is free. A Linux virtual machine is optional, for the firewall lab.
Will I learn how to hack networks?▼
You will learn how common attacks work so you can detect and stop them. The course is for defensive, lawful use only.
Are there live classes?▼
No. If you get stuck, email [email protected].
