Course Overview

PNETLab lets you run virtual routers, switches, firewalls, servers and security tools on one computer, so you can practice networking and security without buying hardware. This course walks you through building a stable PNETLab server, from a fresh Ubuntu install to building your own networking and cybersecurity labs.

By the end, you will be able to:

  1. Explain how network emulation works and why PNETLab is useful.
  2. Install Ubuntu and partition your disk for a lab server.
  3. Set up root access, SSH and trusted repositories.
  4. Fix DNS resolution so your lab can reach the internet.
  5. Install PNETLab and iShare2, then test that everything works.
  6. Add nodes and build networking and cybersecurity topologies, with routers, switches, firewalls and SIEM tools.
